Arts in Transit Committee

In accordance with federal guidelines, the RTA Board of Trustees established the Arts in Transit program in 1991. The first committee members were appointed later that year.

By Board policy, one percent of a project's construction costs must be set aside for public art.

Since 1991, more than 20 works of art have been placed on permanent display in various media at:

• Rail stations
• Transit centers
• The Walkway to Gateway

The Arts in Transit Committee, chaired by Maribeth Feke, includes representatives from:

• schools
• museums
• private businesses
• universities/community colleges
• non-profit organizations
• theater groups and foundations

The Arts in Transit Committee is responsible for:

• overseeing the art selection process, including the selection of artists, review of art proposals, and selection of final art projects
• developing community panels to aid in the selection of any project designed around an Authority facility
• compiling an annual art plan, including any exhibits, visual, functional, and performing arts projects
• recommending supplemental sources of funds for art projects consistent with the objectives and provisions of the program
• providing recommendations for the removal of any existing art installations
